Reverse Engineering
When replacement components are unavailable, our engineers apply reverse engineering expertise to analyse a working or non-working sample, and manufacture a replacement.
Fed up with suppliers going bust, changing ownership and/or obsolescence challenges? We offer:
- Reverse Engineering Consultancy
- Rebuilding spares from customer samples
- Rebuilding multilayer PCB boards, when schematics are no longer available
- Modernisation/Redesign PCB's
- Use of modern components where necessary offering fully functional drop-in replacements
- CNC machining, milling, grinding and engraving.
- Painting and powder coating.
- Laser and water jet cutting.
- FARO Arm inspection CMM machines.
Reverse Engineering Expertise
All of our current engineers are ex Plessey, BAE, Marconi, or AMS. Collectively, our team brings 200 years of expertise in their respective fields, ensuring a high level of skill and knowledge.
From a non working sample, we can offer you a full datapack. This includes the following:
- Full drawings
- X-ray reports
- Metallurgy lab report of sample
- Metallurgy lab report of metal used
- Hardening if required - report supplied
- Stress testing if required - report supplied
- Finished product metallurgy lab report
- Certification
This way, "obsolescence is a thing of the past". You no longer need to worry about companies going bust. You own the datapack, you choose where to have your products make, but always having the peace of mind, that the data master will always stay with you.

Recent Reverse Engineering Projects
8 Layer PCB board for Plessey Radar
- Last PCB available worldwide
- The board level components were removed and a BOM created
- Each layer was sliced/removed and a digital image taken
- Once all the layers were mapped a Gerber file was created
- The new board was re-populated with new surplus components
- We were then able to continue supplying this board for Plessey Radar
Lynx Helicopter Cable Assemblies
- 5995-99-775-3212 – CABLE ASSEMBLY,SPEC
- 5995-99-775-3213 – CABLE ASSEMBLY,SPEC
- 5995-99-775-1999 – CABLE ASSEMBLY,SPEC
- CVC/BSL hold the drawings for these cables
- Connectors and cable are free issued to cable assembler
- Fully assembled cables are shipped to our customer
5950-99-971-9416 – Power Transformer (BSL P/N: B144626)
- We carry the old drawings for this transformer
- The individual piece parts are manufactured for us in the UK and free issued to assembly house
- The transformer is assembled and shipped to our customer
Ceramic feed through NSN 5940-99-056-0057
- This feed through was last manufactured by our group company BSL over 15 years ago and the drawings were no longer available
- CVC had the last known stock left worldwide
- The parts were located and prepared for re-manufacture
- The metal was chemically analysed, CAD drawings were produced before the metal was machined
- The units were sent to an overseas ceramic sealing specialist before being fired at 820 centigrade to sinter the glaze
- We now continue to supply these parts
